Section 7: New Direction in Instructional Design and Technology
I am currently a 3rd and 4th grade Writing teacher to about 136 students. I don't plan on having a future position in the IDT field but I do plan on becoming a school librarian. All the mention aspects of IDT in our textbook could apply to both my current and future position.
E-learning is something that has been important in my life being that I am receiving an online degree and have taken some online classes in the past. I think my students would benefit from on e-learning by using different e-learning tools. After reading the chapter and doing some more research I didn't realize just how much our students use e-learning already in the classroom and library. Currently in my classroom students benefit from blogging and using various websites to upload their compositions and turn them into books. During social studies when researching they use Britannica online and other websites to gain knowledge about a specific topic they are researching. In the library and in centers students use particular websites to help them learn. Websites like Cool Math, Starfall, even PBS Kids are all tools for e-learning. One e-learning course site I found for students is e-learning is e-learningforkids.org. It is a free site that has a lot of useful learning tools for kids of all ages. This is one I will definitely keep.
One learning object I think I would want to use in the future is a classroom website. On our campus we are not required to have them. I would post learning tools for parents and students to be able to use from home. As well homework help and and tools to help them with conventions. As a librarian, we are required to create and maintain a school website and it has a host of learning objects for students and parents to use. I believe as a librarian in my own library that is something that I would keep up as well because it truly is a great help.
Rich media is constantly used in class and in the library. We use graphics, video clips , and sound clips in our flipcharts, PowerPoint presentations and lessons. I like to download and use video clips to teach conventions from the Discovery Education website. We also down songs and embed them within our lessons as well. I think it enhances the lesson and aides in active engagement.
Alot of teachers and librarians love to use electronic games to help with active engagement. I believe electronic games are a win win situation for students and teachers. Teachers can reteach a skill with a game and what child doesn't love to get on the computer and play games? Web 2.0 is great for students to use especially in Writing class. They can create blogs and have students from other classes in the school or other schools in the district respond to their post or read their compositions. They could also score them online, their is a plethora of options when it comes to blogging. Our current librarian has a blog that students can respond to and ask questions which I think is awesome. So whether I am a Classroom Teacher or Librarian I would blog as well as encourage my students to do the same.

Section 6: Getting an IDT Position and Succeeding at It
Begin your post for this week with some background: what is your
current job, what program are you enrolled in, what brings you to that program,
and what do you expect when you graduate (change jobs? obtain a promotion?)
Well, I am currently a 3rd/4th Grade Writing teacher in the FWISD. I enjoy teaching my students. Before teaching 4th grade I taught 2nd and 3rd grade and I knew that when I started teaching 4th I wouldn't enjoy it because they were much older.Boy was I in for a surprise I love 4th grade! Now it's the 3rd graders that are the booger bears.I am currently enrolled in the Educational Technology/ Library Science program here at TAMU- Commerce. Upon graduation I plan on becoming an Elementary School Librarian. I would love to stay within my district however, if that doesn't happen I'm open to trying a different school district. I'm so excited about the new opportunities and can't wait to have my own library for all students to enjoy.
Like I previously stated my goal is to work in an Elementary School Library within an ISD. So most of this question doesn't apply to me because I haven't a clue when it comes to designing and developing instruction except for what I've learned so far in this class. Although IDT seems interesting,my area of expertise if you will lies in Library Science.
Based on these intentions, explain what you need to learn. What skills and qualifications do you need? Will you obtain the skills you need in the required courses in your program? What electives might you need to take to help you develop skills specific to your aspirations?
To obtain a job as a public school librarian I would need to be proficient in technology as well as all of the various aspects of the library. The librarian on my campus is the TIE for She assists everyone on campus when something goes wrong with the Promethean boards, computers, laptops, remotes, ELMO's (document cameras) or anything else that deals with technology in the building. She works closely with the EdTech department and I imagine that is something that I may have to do on the campus I am at. I feel like with most of the technology courses I have taken so far with assist me with these skills. The Library Science classes I have taken will definitely help.
Finally, what organizations would best support your continued learning after you graduate? Do you think you would benefit from joining those organizations before graduating? Explain why or why not?
If I could join any organization it would probably be the American Association for School Librarians. They seem to lend alot of support for members and have plans in place to assist in being an excellent librarian. They have professional development, resources, as well as other committees you could belong to to assist you. I believe I would benefit from being in this organization before and after graduation they have options for Parents as well as students to get involved. It may not be as beneficial for me right off but I think being apart early may give me some insight on what I can do as a librarian.I know when I graduate it would help me greatly.

Next, describe the kind of work that you want to do and the type
of organization or institution in which you want to work. Use the WorkMatrixTM
in the chapter titled “Getting a Job in Business and Industry” to help
organize your thoughts. Do you most desire first, second, third, or fourth
level service? Or would you rather design or develop instruction? What features
of work are important to you? What economic sector do you want to work in?
